Friday night’s meeting in Clay Cross Social Centre was attended by about 70 local residents concerned about impact of the proposed opencast scheme.
The meeting opened with a presentation outlining the campaign so far.
A statement from Natascha Engel MP expressing her support was then read out.
The main speaker for the evening was Steve Leary, Co-ordinator of the Loose Anti Open cast Network.
He spoke about:
- the planning process and the possible consequences of the Halton Lea Gate decision
- The need for coal – Is coal really a mineral of national importance?

Our final speaker was Cllr Duncan Kerr from Bolsover who gave us some usefull thoughts about running a successful campaign.
The meeting concluded with contributions from the floor. These included worrying information about what had happened on the Biwater site and the legacy of broken promises.
A very informative and thought provoking evening.
