Hilltop Action Group Public Meeting
On 18 May 2012 Hilltop Action Group held its first public meeting for residents in Old Tupton, Holmgate and Clay Cross. More than 200 people turned up at Holmgate Community Centre on a wet Friday evening for a presentation delivered by the interim committee.
As we have spent the last month tracking down and obtaining copies of documents from the planning authority and others we were able to give out much more information than Provectus had chosen to give us in their newsletter last month.
The general feeling was that the noise, dust, traffic, risks to health and property and destruction of a wildlife haven would not be tolerated by the local communities.
Clay Cross is trying to attract retailers and commerce after years of disruption during reclamation and regeneration – the last thing the town needs on its doorstep is an open cast mine.
Many have now volunteered their time and skills to move the campaign into its next phase against the Provectus open cast mining proposals.
